From Low Energy to High Performance

Ines Drechsler on Organizational Energy & Performace I Episode #12

We often talk about performance in terms of targets, KPIs, and results – but what if the real driver sits somewhere else?

Teams do not perform because numbers are managed more closely. They perform when people have the clarity, capability, and energy to contribute at their best.

In this episode of Think Beyond Talks, Anne Barnea speaks with Ines Drechsler, Think Beyond Impact Partner, about organizational energy, leadership, and what helps teams move from resignation to performance.

Drawing on her background in systemic consulting, coaching, and organizational energy, Ines explores why change can trigger resistance, how leaders can better understand what is happening beneath the surface of a team, and why energy is a critical – yet often overlooked – condition for sustainable performance.

At the heart of her perspective are three conditions for performance:

Clarity. Capability. Energy.

Clarity creates alignment and focus. Capability ensures people have the skills they need. And energy determines whether people actually want to contribute, engage, and move things forward.

Ines introduces four different energy states that can exist within teams: highly productive energy, comfortable energy, resigned energy, and corrosive energy. Each of them shapes how people collaborate, respond to pressure, and approach change.

A team may appear successful on the surface while individual members are already disconnected or resigned. That is why leaders need to look beyond results and ask what is really happening within the team.

What you’ll learn in this episode:

  • Why change often triggers resistance and fear of loss

  • How reframing change as advancement can create a more positive perspective

  • Why knowing yourself and knowing your people matters in leadership

  • How pressure can trigger fight, flight, or freeze responses at work

  • Why clarity, capability, and energy are three key conditions for performance

  • What highly productive, comfortable, resigned, and corrosive energy look like in teams

  • Why comfortable teams can fall into an “inertia trap”

  • How strong performance numbers can sometimes hide disengagement

  • Why leaders need to diagnose the real causes of low energy rather than rely on quick fixes

  • How connection, observation, and honest conversations can help teams move forward

Ines leaves us with a simple starting point for leaders and teams:

Ask yourself: What gives us energy – and what drains it?

Understanding the energy you and your team are operating from can be the first step toward creating the conditions for better collaboration, change, and sustainable performance.

Listen now and explore how organizational energy can help leaders understand what is really happening in their teams – and how to move from resignation to performance.
