The business world is in a constant change process and Corona has even put more focus on home-office, agile work, flexible working hours, big data and many more. These ongoing external influences and challenges has put the emphasis on additional skills desperately needed by Top Management in a VUCA (volatile, uncertain, complex, ambiguous) world.
It is no longer sufficient to be a manager – in the working world of tomorrow we need true leaders with an authentic leadership style, being a role model for future generations and team members.
So how is it possible to juggle all these challenges, needs and changes? What kind of skills do leaders need to cope with all this?
With Corona, flexible working and home-office we need a new leadership style
We have been talking about leadership and the respective skills a leader needs for ages. With employees being in home-office it is no longer about control, distributing different tasks but about trust, leading by example, cooperation and talking about results.
In the working world of tomorow we are talking about leadership from within, skills and qualities a leader needs. Leaders with the right mindset and tools at hand.
What kind of qualities do we need in future?
Very often we used to talk about a good manager if he/she is goal-oriented, takes good decisions, is analytical, competitive, assertive and many more.
These are all typical masculine qualities that are definitely needed in top management.
In addition – coping with all the changes and challenges some more qualities are needed to be a good leader: compassionate, collaborative, relationship-directed, empathetic, intuitive … to name a view.
The latter are said to be more feminine qualities that are definitely needed in the working world of tomorrow in order to be a true leader. Or you need a team where members have their strengths in various fields with different (feminine and masculine) qualities.
In a nutshell:
In order to lead a successful company we need to have a balance of leaders with feminine and masculine qualities (irrespective of gender). It is not about more men or more women in leadership positions. It is all about feminine and masculine qualities.
